Januario M. Terra, 86, of Salem, passed away early Monday morning at the Pilgrim Rehabilitation and Nursing Center following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Goulart) Terra.
Januario was born in Pico, Azores, Portugal on March 21, 1928, so of the late Tomas and Maria (Medeiros) Terra. He was raised and educated in Pico until moving to the United States in 1966.

Prior to his retirement, he worked as a tanner in various tanneries in Peabody. In his spare time, he enjoyed tending to his garden, he enjoyed traveling to different places, he especially liked taking cruises because of his love for the ocean, but most importantly he enjoyed being surrounded by his family.
Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a daughter, Brenda Terra and her partner, Laurie Dougenik, his siblings; Manuel Terra, Maria Furtado, Beatriz Lucas, and Adelia Terra, all of California, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, a close family friend, Chico Resendes, and the family dog, Chloe. He was predeceased by his brother, Al Terra.

A Visitation will be held of Thursday, February 19, from 9:00 until 10:30A.M. at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn St., Peabody, followed by a funeral mass at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Walsh Ave., Peabody at 11:00A.M.
