Obituary: Josephine Mary (Grasso) Carro, Longtime Salem Resident

Was a member of the former St. Mary's Italian Church in Salem and the St. Mary's Ladies Sodality.

Josephine Mary (Grasso) Carro 95, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Frank Carro, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2015 at Salem Hospital. Born in New York, New York, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Mary Grasso. She was raised and educated in Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York and was a graduate of New Utrecht High School in New York.

Mrs. Carro joined the working world in 1940’s as a telephone Operator at Ft. Devens. When she moved to Salem she had been employed with the former C.B.S. Hytron until she dedicated herself to raising her beloved family.

A loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother, Josephine took great pride in providing a warm and loving home to her family. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren.

A resident of the City of Salem since 1953, Josephine was a member of the former St. Mary’s Italian Church in Salem and the St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality. She enjoyed spending her time gardening and hosting family and friends at her home. A talented and expert seamstress, Josephine crafted all of the bridesmaid dresses for her own wedding and was always willing to construct beautifully intricate clothing for her family and friends. Yet throughout her life, Family was always paramount. From traveling to Florida in the winter to spend time with her sister, to babysitting to crafting a keepsake for her beloved grandchildren, Josephine always put her family first and foremost in her life.

Josephine is survived by her daughter, Angela Carro of Chelsea, her sons, Peter Carroand his wife Barbara of Lawrence, Paul “Dr. P.” Carro of Salem, Joseph Carro and his wife Julie of King George, Virginia and Philip Carro of Salem, her grandchildren, Tori, Anthony and Rocco Carro, Cal Green and Alyssa and Jennifer Carro, her ten great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Anne Grasso and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by six siblings.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Wednesday Feb. 18th at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited.
