Obituary: Minerva C. (Read) Shreve, 103, Took the Bus to Boston to Hear the Boston Symphony For 25 Years

Licensed practical nurse; volunteered at a number of organizations in Salem, Mass.

Minerva C. (Read) Shreve, 103, wife of the late Benjamin Shreve, died Friday, June 5, 2015 at her residence.

Born in Manchester-By-The-Sea, she was the daughter of the late James P. and Louise (Eshinger) Read.

A Licensed Practical Nurse, she was employed for many years in the office of Dr. Albert in Beverly and also at Salem Hospital.

A resident of Salem since moving from Manchester in 1967, she was a member of the First Church in Salem. She volunteered her time with several organizations, including the Thread and Needle Society, the Female Charitable Society and the Samaritan Society, the Essex Institute and the House of Seven Gables, all of Salem. She liked classical music and for 25 years took the bus to Boston to hear the Boston Symphony.

The family would like to thank the staff of the John Bertram House for care of Minerva for several years.

Mrs. Shreve is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Gay and Frederick Hammond of Hamilton, Elaine and Donald Woodbury of Jackson, NH, five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Freida W. Somers, Violet L. Read and Gladys J. Peart.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem.
