Obituary: Thomas G. Voyer, President of the Former Vincent Potato Chip Co. of Salem

Thomas G. Voyer, of Marblehead, MA and recently a resident at Hathorne Hill in Danvers, MA died on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Beverly Hospital. Thomas was the son of the late Bertrand G. Voyer and Rita (Arsenault) Voyer of Salem. He was the President of the former Vincent Potato Chip Company of Salem, Massachusetts.

Tom was a Vietnam veteran having served from 1966 to 1970 as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Tom was educated at the former St. Ann’s Parish School in Salem and graduated from St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers in 1962. Upon his return from Vietnam, Tom attended Bentley College in Waltham, MA earning a degree in Business Administration in 1973.

He also worked alongside his father Bert at the family business located for many years on Highland Avenue in Salem. Tom often accompanied his father on trips to Maine securing contracts with potato farmers who supplied Vincent’s with its raw materials. Tom became President of the company when Bert passed away in 1981. The Vincent Potato Chip Company was a snack food manufacturer and distributer of branded and private label products throughout the Northeast. North Shore residents especially enjoyed the potato chips manufactured there for nearly fifty years. The factory closed in 1999.

Tom was an avid sports fan and followed all the Boston teams over his lifetime. He was a season ticketholder for the Boston Red Sox since 1968. Tom played tennis with a core group of friends and enjoyed frequent ski trips to Vermont with his family for many years. He also attended PGA golf tournaments throughout New England. Tom was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Marblehead Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Snack Food Association and the Potato Chip Institute of America.

Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife Patricia Kammes, formerly of Wheaton, IL and a well-known family therapist on the North Shore. He leaves behind his loving daughters Elysse Voyer and her husband Ryan Hamilton of San Jose, CA and Camille Voyer of Gloucester, MA. He also leaves his sister and dear friend, Claudette Bachini and her husband Charles of Spotsylvania, VA and many nieces and nephews, including Elizabeth Bachini of Charlestown, MA and Julia Bachini of Fredericksburg VA, and a dear aunt and godmother, Amy Tremblay of Salem, MA.

In addition to his family, Tom will certainly be missed by a multitude of friends who will remember “Tommy” for his warmth and kindness. Most dear to him were his lifelong friends from the “old neighborhood” at Osgood Park, and many others throughout South Salem.
