'This Park Belongs to Jesus'

Police ask "Edith" to stop preaching to children without their consent.

There was some dispute over just who Mansell Park belongs to on Wednesday evening.

Around 6:45 p.m., police went to the park after someone called to report that there was a woman doing some unwanted preaching to children, many of whom were just trying to get through cheerleading practice.

When police arrived, there was a woman wearing striped dress who was preaching the word of Jesus to the less than enthralled children.

The officer spoke with the woman, who would only give her name as Edith.

Edith was advised to leave the children alone, including the four groups of girls at cheerleading practice.

Edith said that she did not have to leave the park, but police told her she did not have to leave the park, she just had to leave the children alone.

Edith then told the officer that the park belongs to Jesus, and not the city of Salem.

However, Edith did leave the park on her own. The original caller noted that this is the second time Edith has come to the park and bothered the children.
