Peabody Bike Path Attack Injures Man On Independence Greenway

There was a large police presence in the area on Wednesday after man reported being attacked and robbed around noon.

PEABODY, MA — A man was attacked on the Independence Greenway near Russell Street in Peabody on Wednesday.

The Peabody police incident report said the victim told police he was shown a knife and robbed of a wedding ring and $20 between Glen Drive and Aggregate Industries. He also said he suffered a nose injury in the attack.

Peabody police notified Middletown, Danvers and Lynnfield that a subject described as a Black man in his 20s — who was wearing a surgical mask at the time of the attack — was being sought.

Nearby residents reported a heavy police presence in the area throughout the afternoon as a Peabody police K9 unit, State Police K9 unit and State Police airwing unit were deployed.

The victim was taken to Salem Hospital for evaluation.
