Update: Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Bridge Street

Salem man arraigned for being an accessory after the fact, investigation continues.

A 42-year old homeless man was struck and killed by a motor vehicle on Bridge Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. last night, according to WBZ News.

According to WBZ and Salem police, the man was pronounced dead at the scene near 75 Bridge Street.

Francisco Garcia, 25, of Salem was arraigned in Salem District Court in connection with the accident and charged with being an accessory after the fact and leaving the scene of an accident after a death. Garcia pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He was held on $5,000 cash bail according to Carrie Kimball-Monahan, spokesperson for the Essex County District Attorney’s office.

It is believed that Garcia was the passenger in the car that struck the homeless man.

Kimball-Monahan said the investigation into the incident is continuing and that there could be additional charges.

According to WHDH, Garcia told police he was the driver of the car that hit the homeless man, but police don’t believe he was telling the truth.

Witnesses said there was a woman driving the car at the time of the accident, according to report.

Police are reportedly questioning a woman in connection to the crash.
