Person Killed In Salem Commuter Rail Strike

Salem police said the pedestrian was hit and killed shortly after 10 p.m. near the commuter rail station.

SALEM, MA — A commuter rail train struck and killed a person in Salem on Tuesday night.

Salem police said the pedestrian strike was reported shortly after 10 p.m. on the northbound tracks just beyond the train station. Police said emergency personnel performed life-saving measures, but they were unsuccessful.

Police did not identify the victim by name or gender.

"The incident does not appear to be criminal in nature but is being investigated by the Office of the District Attorney, Transit Police and the Salem Police Department," Salem police said.
