Police: Large Copperhead Snake in a Backyard; Salem Man Arrested; Tires Slashed on a Car

Monday, June 22
At 8:26 a.m., larceny at the Walgreens on new Derby Street. Employee saw a man take a bottle of bodywash off the shelf and leave the store. She told officers that she had tried to stop him and block the man from leaving, but was unable to.
At 10:17 a.m., T-Mobile cellphone found on Margin Street and turned in at the station.

At 12:01 p.m., suspicious activity on Loring Avenue and Cedarview Street. Loud bang in the area.
At 1:19 p.m., large snake in the backyard on Carriage Hill Lane. Animal control officer identified the snake as a copperhead, a venomous snake. The snake was removed.

At 1:45 p.m., complaint of dogs playing in the fountain at East India Square.
At 2:04 p.m., young child accidentally locked in a car on Forest Avenue. Mother said she was removing items from the car when she dropped her keys. The door shut and locked. Firefighters removed the child.
At 2:16 p.m., stolen motorcycle license plate on Orchard Street.
At 2:26 p.m., malicious destruction of property over $250 on Pickman Road. Reporting party stated that someone cut the locks on a “Pack Rat” storage unit. There was also a storage unit under the back deck that had its padlock cut. Nothing was reported as missing.
At 3:14 p.m., report of a man exposing himself on Highland Avenue.
At 5:28 p.m., malicious destruction of property on Mason Street. Report of tires slashed to a vehicle on Sunday.
Tuesday, June 23
At 1:41 a.m., reports of a man trying to take items from a vehicle in area of the Hawthorne Hotel in Washington Square. Christopher Decker, 25, of Salem, arrested for break and enter to commit a felony, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
At 8:11 a.m., motor vehicle accident on Jefferson Avenue. No injuries; no tows. Motorist was cited for failure to use care when backing up.
At 10:25 a.m., abandoned vehicle on Phelps Street.Vehicle towed and plates confiscated.
At 12:14 p.m., break and enter to a motor vehicle in the Target parking lot. Woman inadvertently left back window down. When she returned to her car after shopping, her handbag was missing.
