Police Log: Salem Woman Cited For Leaving the Scene of a Car Accident

Excerpts from the Salem Police Department log.

Saturday, Dec. 13

At 12:52 a.m., police responded to a car accident at Essex and North streets. Two vehicles were towed. There were no injuries. One driver was cited with failure to yield.

At 12:59 a.m., police received a call from Washington Street after someone smashed a car window. Nothing was reportedly taken. There are no suspects at this time.

At 1:07 a.m., an employee at a Norman Street business reported a past shoplifting of a sandwich. Police watched a video of a man with a gray hooded sweatshirt and Boston Red Sox winter hat steal the sandwich while his girlfriend bought other items.

At 2:22 a.m., police responded to Lafayette Street about a man on a roof. A resident said she and another person went to a flat portion of the roof to smoke. Police advised her to “utilize a more appropriate location.”

At 2:55 a.m., police responded to Salem Street concerning a large fight involving about 20 teenagers. Police spoke to the teens who said there was no violence, but it was just a shouting match. Police sent them on their way.

At 1:53 p.m., police responded to a car accident on Traders Way. Police found one vehicle was involved when the driver got the car caught on curbing and landscaping. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed.

At 2:32 p.m., a Forest Avenue resident called police after a tenant allegedly smashed a window. Police are investigating.

At 3:54 p.m., police responded to Traders Way and Highland Avenue after a motorist struck a utility pole. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed. Police warned the driver for a marked lanes violation.

At 3:59 p.m., police responded to Lafayette Street and Raymond Avenue about a one-car accident. The driver said she lost control on some wet leaves and struck a stone wall. Police do not believe speed was a factor. There were no injuries. The vehicle was towed.

At 4:23 p.m., police received a call about a stolen wallet from Salem High School. The wallet was in an unlocked instrument case and was stolen during band practice.

Sunday, Dec. 14

At 1:10 a.m., police arrested Jason P. Harvey, 37, 13 ½ Meadow St., Salem, and charged him violating a city knife ordinance. Police made the arrest after a report of a fight on Endicott Street. Police found the people were arguing, but there was no fight. Police reportedly found a knife while searching Harvey.

At 8:20 a.m. an Essex Street resident reported plants, a table and trash barrels were tipped over in a backyard. There was no damage to the property.

At 10:38 a.m., police responded to Federal Street about a hit-and-run accident. A driver reportedly struck a light pole and left the scene of the accident. Police cited the driver, who is a 57-year-old Salem woman, for a marked lanes violation and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident that involved property damage.
