It’s one of the oldest rules out there. Don’t insult someone’s mother unless you want to get a poke in the eye.

Early Friday morning, police were called to Margin Street for a report of a man yelling.

When police got to Margin Street, they talked to two men who said they were in an argument that almost ended up in fisticuffs.

Both men said that the other was making some personal remarks about the other’s mother and that it was very insulting.

One of the men then said he challenged the other man to “put on some gloves so that they could handle it the old way,” according to police.

The man who was challenged refused to take up the offer and said he stayed away and that there was no physical altercation.

Police advised both men to stay away from each other and stop making any kind of contact.
