Rebel Shakespeare Summer Theater Program Returns to Winter Island

July and August Youth Theater Programs Available for Ages 8-14 Scholarship Available for Salem Residents

Salem Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce that the Rebel Shakespeare Company is bringing its summer youth theater program back to Winter Island for the 2018 Summer Season. Two four-week programs will be offered for ages 8-14, one in July and one in August. The programs are open to residents of Salem and surrounding communities. A special scholarship is available for a resident of Salem to attend the program.

Rebel Shakespeare programs educate, encourage, and challenge young people through the timeless works of William Shakespeare. Actors will participate in theatre games, improvisation, visual arts, movement, and so much more. Each program culminates in a series of performances of a play by Shakespeare, either Romeo and Juliet(July) or Macbeth(August).

“We are thrilled to be back at Winter Island,” said Jennifer Barz-Snell, Board President of Rebel Shakespeare Company. “It’s a magical place for a summer theater program, and especially for Shakespeare. We’re so grateful to Mayor Kim Driscoll and Dave Gilbert of Salem Parks and Recreation for their support in bringing Rebel back this year. We are committed to growing our program in Salem as families get to know what a wonderful summer opportunity Rebel can provide.”
