Recovering in Salem: the Physiology of Addiction and How it Impacts the Brain

Learn about what the physiology of addiction and substance use disorder is and how it impacts the brain.

The Salem Overdose and Substance Use Prevention Coalition is proud to present episode 5 of “Recovering in Salem.” This episode focuses on the biology and physiology of addiction and how it impacts the brain. Dr. Kiame Mahaniah, the chief medical officer of Lynn Community Health Center, and Mark Kennard, executive director of Project COPE, discuss what addiction and substance use disorder is and how it impacts the brain. Learn why individuals suffering from substance use disorder seek drugs and overdose repeatedly and how addiction is a chronic disease.

“Recovering in Salem” airs on Salem Access Television’s Channel 3 on Saturdays at 2:30pm and Tuesdays at 3:00pm. It is also available on their website, www.satvonline.org, through video on demand.
