Salem: $10,000 Grant to Fund the Teacher Leadership Initiative
Cabinet members will receive teacher leadership training, discuss issues facing Salem's schools and work to propose policy.
Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll recently announced that the Salem Five Charitable Foundation awarded the Salem Public Schools a $10,000 grant to fund the district’s creation of the Salem Teachers’ Cabinet.
The cabinet is supported by the Massachusetts-based non-profit organization Teach Plus. It consists of 10 Salem public school teachers, and will meet over the course of six months with Mayor Driscoll, who chairs the School Committee.
“Salem Five is excited to be able to partner with the city of Salem on this important initiative to improve the quality of our children’s education,” said Ping Yin Chai, President & CEO of Salem Five Bank in a news release. “While the Bank continues to grow well outside Essex County, we are always cognizant of the importance of our commitment to our roots here in Salem. There is nothing more foundational to the success of a community than the thoughtful and strategic development of our young people, and that’s what Teach Plus will help bring to the table.”
