Salem 2023 Preliminary Election Guide: Candidates, Where To Vote
Residents in Ward 1 will go to the polls on Tuesday to narrow the field of three City Council candidates to two for the general election.

SALEM, MA — Salem residents in Ward 1 will go to the polls on Tuesday to narrow the field of City Council candidates to two for the November general election.
Ward 1 is the only citywide office in need of a runoff election this cycle. The top two vote-getters out of the three candidates on the ballot on Tuesday will advance to the Nov. 7 general election.

Voting Times, Places
Voting will take place between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the following places:
Ward 1 Precinct 1 Bentley Academy Gymnasium, 25 Memorial Drive
Ward 1 Precinct 2 135 Lafayette Street, Community Room
In some cases, voters may be required to show an ID. It does not have to be a photo ID, but it must contain a name and Salem address as registered. Acceptable forms of ID include utility bills, paycheck stubs, driver's licenses, etc.
Mail-in ballots must be received in the City Clerk's office by 8 p.m. on Tuesday to be counted in the preliminary election. Mail-in ballots cannot be returned to the polling locations.
