Salem Academy Charter School Commended for MCAS Scores
Schools within public district did not make state commendations list.

The spring 2010 MCAS Scores are in, and Salem Academy Charter School has been recognized by the state for academic excellence.
According to a press release from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (ESE), Salem Academy ranked 161st on a list of 187 "Commendation Schools" recognized by Gov. Deval Patrick for "academic growth and continued success in closing achievement gaps."
Schools within Salem's Public School District did not make the list.

Both Superintendent William Cameron and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Steven O'Brien declined to comment. Cameron said officials would review information from each of the district's nine principals and meet with the director of special education before making a public comment.
