Salem Artists - Your Metal Canvas Awaits

The city of Salem recently issued a call-out to any and all artists interested in transforming a downtown utility box into one-of-a-kind masterpieces as part of ArtBox 2013. 

Artists are encouraged to submit proposals - winning artists will have their work "in front of one million people annually and will receive $500," according to a release posted on the city's website.

ArtBox is asking all interested artists to propose a piece that presents his or her visual interpretation of "Salem’s cityscape, culture, community pride or art itself."

The deadline to have your work submitted is 4 p.m. on Monday, April 8. Submitted pieces will be judged by an independent group of creative professionals, including Steven Zevitas, President and Publisher New American Painting and owner of the Boston-based Steven Zevitas Gallery.

One box will be painted each week starting in June.

Winners will be publically announced at the Salem Arts Festival on June 1.
