Salem-Based HAWC Says Annual Walk, 5K Raised $165K For North Shore Services
The June 7 event drew 551 participants and will support HAWC's free, confidential domestic abuse services.

SALEM, MA — The Salem-based nonprofit Healing Abuse Working for Change's 34th Annual Walk & 5K Run drew a record number of participants and raised $165,000 to support services across the North Shore.
HAWC said the June 7 fundraiser brought together 551 registered participants, along with businesses, sponsors, volunteers and advocates. HAWC officials said the event was one of the most successful fundraising efforts in the organization's history.
HAWC said the money raised will help sustain its free and confidential services for people affected by domestic abuse. Those services include emergency shelter, legal advocacy, housing assistance, youth prevention education, safety planning and a 24/7 hotline.

Serving as grand marshal was Leslie Gould, executive director of the Greater Beverly Chamber of Commerce. HAWC said Gould's leadership and commitment to strengthening communities helped inspire participants throughout the day.
"We are incredibly grateful to everyone who walked, ran, donated, volunteered, and sponsored this event," said Sara Stanley, Executive Director of HAWC. "The overwhelming support demonstrated by our community sends a powerful message to survivors: you are not alone.

"Every dollar raised helps provide critical services and creates pathways to safety, healing, and hope."
Participants spent the morning raising awareness about domestic violence and the resources available to people who need help.
"I was honored to serve as Grand Marshal for this year's Walk & 5K Run," said Leslie Gould. "The tremendous turnout and generosity of our community reflect the deep commitment people have to supporting survivors and ensuring that organizations like HAWC can continue their vital work."
HAWC thanked sponsors, donors, volunteers and participants for helping make the event possible.
HAWC serves 23 cities and towns on Massachusetts' North Shore.
The organization provides free and confidential services including emergency shelter, legal advocacy, housing support, safety planning, youth prevention education and a 24-hour hotline, while also working on education, outreach and advocacy aimed at addressing the root causes of abuse.
