Salem Blizzard: What You Need To Know In Saturday's Storm

A snow emergency parking ban is in effect and all Salem State University classes and activities are canceled in the storm.

SALEM, MA — A snow emergency parking ban is in effect for Saturday as Salem deals with what could be a historic snowstorm on Saturday.

The parking ban went into effect at midnight and will continue until most snow removal efforts are completed. There is reduced fee parking at the Museum Place and South Harbor parking garages for the duration of the ban.

Salem State University said on Friday that all classes and activities were canceled for Saturday. Resident students authorized to park vehicles on campus should move them to the North Campus Parking Garage for the duration of the storm.

The Salem Skipper ride-sharing service is also suspended on Saturday.

The BlueBikes bicycle-renting service is suspended both Saturday and Sunday.

The Salem Maritime National Historic Site — the Salem Armory Regional Visitor Center and all the restrooms — is shut down on Saturday.

Eversource and National Grid were preparing for the likelihood of power outages due to downed trees or limbs by positioning line and tree crews across the state – including hundreds on loan from other states.

Residents are advised to make sure cell phones and devices are fully charged.
