Salem Common will then host the 389th Annual First Muster to mark one of America's oldest military traditions on Saturday.
In 1637, the East Regiment of the Massachusetts Bay Colony assembled on this very ground for the first time — which gave birth to what we know today as the National Guard.
This year's event is part of the Salem 400+ year-long celebration.
The First Muster will take place on Saturday on Salem Common (Rain or Shine).
A memorial service will be held at the Gen. Abbott monument in front of St. Peter's Church at 8 a.m. followed by an Armory Park ceremony at 9.
The parade will march to Salem Common at 9:30 with the muster ceremony set for 10 a.m. to include a U.S. helicopter landing, Army helicopter flyover, 300 soldier pass and cannon salute.
Neighbors are advised to be prepared to hear loud noises and sounds of explosives throughout the morning.
Military displays of trucks, cannons, HMMWV's, and military equipment are also scheduled to be at the event.
Free parking and refreshments will be available at O'Donnell’s at 84 Washington Square after the event.
