Salem Celebrates Glow Up With Beautification Awards

The Salem Window Box Competition honored efforts with window boxes and traffic islands.

SALEM, MA — The efforts of Salem residents and business owners to add a splash of color across the city were celebrated with the awarding of prizes in the revived Salem Window Box Competition at the Women's Friend Society on Hawthorne Boulevard.

The Salem Beautification Committee, Salem Garden Club and Mayor Dominick Pangallo recognized the winners in the categories of residential window boxes, business window boxes and traffic islands.

Winners received gifts donated by The Home Depot, Salem Native Nursery, Maitland Farm, and Oak and Moss.

"I am honored to recognize those who give so much time, effort, and talent to helping our community shine," Pangallo said. "We're fortunate that so many in Salem are willing to volunteer to make our city a vibrant and welcoming place."

First Place – Valerie Fox, 4 Chestnut Street

Second Place – Karen Davis, 18 Winter Street

Business Window Box

First Place – Coon's Card and Gift Shop, 226 Essex Street

Second Place – Adriatic, 155 Washington Street

Third Place – Northey Street Bed and Breakfast, 30 Northey Street

Traffic Island

First Place – Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel

Second Place – St. Jean’s Credit Union

Third Place – The Feline Hospital of Salem
