Salem Changes Parking Rates Ahead Of October Influx Of Visitors
The changes take effect on Saturday, September 22.

SALEM, MA -- Officials will implement new parking rates beginning Sept. 22. The new rates at the Museum Place Garage and the South Harbor Garage go into effect just before the busy month of October, when visitors flock to Salem ahead of Halloween.
The new rates are as follows:
- Museum Place, hourly: $1.25/hour
- Museum Place, Salem resident monthly pass: $70.00/month
- Museum Place, non-resident monthly pass: $80.00/month
- South Harbor, hourly weekdays: $0.75
- South Harbor, hourly weekends: $1.50
- Both garages, October weekends: $10 for up to 2 hours; $30 for 2 hours and over
The city is reevaluating parking rates, which have been unchanged in nearly 10 years. In June, the traffic and parking commission proposed raising parking rates at meters on 12 streets in Salem and extending enforcement hours.
