Salem City Councilor Megan Stott To Run For School Committee
The former City Council president announced her plans to run for a School Committee seat on Wednesday.

SALEM, MA — Megan Stott, who began her time representing Ward 6 on the Salem City Council with a one-vote victory six years ago, is planning to run for the School Committee.
Stott announced her decision in a message to her constituents on social media on Wednesday.
"For me, this feels like a natural next step in my public service journey," she said. "I'm looking forward to taking on this new challenge, connecting with even more members of our school community, and learning and listening along the way."

Stott said she is proud of the work she did on the Council, helping the city navigate the COVID-19 health crisis, with safe streets initiatives, inclusionary housing and "challenging the status quo."
"It's been meaningful, collaborative, and at times, hard work — but always worth it," she said. "I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve.

"While I am proud of my work as your Ward 6 councilor, at the end of this year, I'll be ready to move on to the next chapter and to watch a new Ward 6 representative step up."
Stott said she believes Salem Public Schools are on a "positive trajectory" and that she wants to "keep that momentum going."
"At the same time, I know there are uncertainties ahead," she said. "Essential conversations and decisions lie in front of us, and I believe it’s critical to approach them with compassion, transparency, and community engagement — just as I’ve strived to do throughout my time on the Council."
She said she decided to announce her intentions early in the political calendar in order to give herself time to prepare for her next run and to allow for a robust campaign for what will soon be her former Ward 6 seat.
"I will still be here as your ward councilor for the remainder of 2025, and I hope to be of assistance to the next," she said. "And of course, I will be keeping you all up to date as the election season moves on, because if any ward knows that every vote counts — it is us here in Ward 6."
