Salem Considers Local Tax On Entertainment Tickets

Any locally-approved ticket tax would also need to be approved by the state legislature.

SALEM, MA -- City Council's finance will hold a meeting to look at a proposed, local tax on entertainment tickets. Councilor Tom Furey proposed the initiative last week as a way to reduce the tax burden on residents. Such a tax would not only need to be passed locally, but it would also need approval from the state legislature.

Other Massachusetts have passed similar taxes, usually adding a locally-collected surcharge to tickets for museums, concerts and other live performances.
