Salem Declares Snow Emergency, List Of Cancellations Grows

SALEM, MA -- With another winter storm expected to dump 6-8 inches of snow on Salem, he city has declared a snow emergency that goes into effect at 5 pm Wednesday. On-street parking is banned until the emergency is lifted.
On-street parking is banned for the duration of the snow emergency. The city has designated snow emergency parking locations, which can also be viewed on an interactive map. The quickest way to find out when the city has lifted the snow emergency is to sign up for the Salem CodeRED alert system. The city will also place a red snow emergency banner across the top of its Website at Salem.com.
In addition, the number of cancellations for Wednesday afternoon and evening is starting to grow. Salem Public Schools were already scheduled for an early release on Wednesday. Here are the snow-related cancellations we know of so far:

- The Zoning Board of Appeals meeting scheduled for Wednesday night has been rescheduled to next Wednesday, March 28, at 6:30 pm.
- The Historical Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday night was also moved to next Wednesday night.
- The Salem Film Fest box office is closed Wednesday because of the snow.
- Salem State University is closing at 3 pm Wednesday. Only designated essential employees should report to work.
- Salem Community Child Care will be opening late at 9 am on Thursday. After school programs will open at their usual time of 1:30 pm.
- The Underwater in Salem Sound Lecture at the Abbot Public Library in Marblehead is canceled.

The city also has a snow shoveling assistance program for elderly and disabled residents. More information on the program, which is run by the Salem Council on Aging, is available on the Website.
