Salem Declares Snow Emergency Parking Ban Ahead Of March Winter Storm

The North Shore was forecast to be hit with a combination of snow and ice on Thursday night.

SALEM, MA — Salem residents will once again have to move their vehicles from city streets on Thursday night after a snow emergency parking ban was declared earlier in the day.

The ban comes as up to 4 inches of snow was forecast on the North Shore, along with sleet and freezing rain.

Violators will be subject to tickets and possible towing.

The ban was to begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, citywide, and 10 p.m. in the designated downtown areas. The ban was set to expire at 6 a.m. on Friday.

Cars parked in the snow parking areas on Salem Street, Jackson Street, Salem High School, and Bates Elementary School must be removed promptly at 6 a.m. on Friday so that these locations can be cleared for school.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of the state starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday and continuing until noon on Friday.

"Plan on slippery road conditions," the NWS said. "The Friday morning commute will be impacted."
