Salem Election Results: A Good Night for Incumbents

Dibble takes write-in campaign for Ward 7 Council

A hand count of write-in candidates to replace the late Councilor Joseph O’Keefe in Ward 7 had the final results from the Salem city election coming in a little later than usual.

Steven Dibble and William Luster were mounting write-in campaigns to fill the seat that was held by O’Keefe, who died earlier this fall. Dibble earned the council seat by a 575-194 margin over Luster.

In the other contested Council ward races where all the votes were in, incumbent Heather Famico defeated challenger Tim Jenkins 730-581 in Ward 2; in Ward 3, Stephen Lovely defeated Lise Hansen-Damato 572-326; and in Ward 6, incumbent Beth Gerard defeated Pamela Lombardini 642-430.

Incumbent at-large councilors Thomas Furey, Arthur Sargent III, and Elaine Milo were joined by Jerry Ryan in the four spots for a seat on the council. Incumbent William Legault just missed out on re-election, finishing fifth. Ryan was the top vote-getter among at-large candidates with 2,940. Legault was the only one of seven incumbents on the ballot not to win re-election.

And in the School Committee race, incumbent James Fleming, Mary Manning, and Kris Wilson finished in the top three to earn spots on the Comittee.
