Salem Fire Relief Efforts Set For Ropes Street Blaze Victims

The city is asking for donations and living space assistance to help those affected by a fire ot 5 Ropes Street on Monday.

SALEM, MA — Salem city officials are organizing relief efforts and asking for community help to assist the victims who lost their homes in Monday's fire on Ropes Street.

The city said 100 percent of Salem Relief Fund donations will go to residents displaced by the fire.

Those looking to donate can do so online here, via check or cash at any Salem Five location, or directly to the Office of the Mayor at 93 Washington Street, Salem, MA 01970.

Fire victims will have full discretion to use the funds for any purpose necessary.

The city is also seeking those with available housing to offer the space to displaced victims. Even temporary or single-room locations will be considered, particularly if accommodations can be made for a young couple with an infant. Those with room are asked to contact Constituent Services Director Julio Mota in the Mayor's Office at jmota@salem.com or 978-619-5600.

The city may also be accepting donations of goods, furniture and clothing in the coming days and weeks but as of now, financial assistance is prioritized.

Businesses and organizations that wish to provide other assistance are asked to contact Mota's office as well.
