Salem Firefighters Battling At Least Two House Fires

City officials asked the public to stay away from the Hancock Street area, while Salem fire crews try to extinguish the flames.

SALEM, MA — At least two homes caught fire in Salem Monday afternoon, according to fire officials.

City officials on Twitter said the fire started on Hancock Street. Wind gusts of up to 25 mph have made the fire difficult to contain.

"The #SalemMA Fire Department is responding to a three-alarm fire on Hancock Street," the Tweet read. "Please avoid the area and do not approach the scene. Crews expect to be addressing the situation for some time."
