Salem Getting Another Microbrewery
The owners say they're 90% through the permitting process and hope to begin construction this month.

SALEM, MA -- East Regiment Beer Company hopes to begin construction this month as it aims to become Salem's fourth microbrewery. Owned by Scott Perry and Joshua Engdahl, the brewery would join Notch Brewery, Far From The Tree Cider, and Beerworks Brewing Co. No. 2 (formerly Salem Beerworks). The new brewery will share space at 30 Chruch Street with Nick’s Firehouse Coffee Shop.
Perry and Engdahl told Northshore Magazine, which first reported this story, that they are 90% through the permitting process. The actual beer making would take place in the basement, with an upstairs tasting room and outdoor seating. The two have been working on the concept since 2014 and are naming the brewery after the East Regiment, which was organized in 1636 and is considered the start of the U.S. National Guard.
Both owners are Salem natives and longtime friends who started as home brewers. TEngdahl specializes in IPAs and stouts, while Perry prefers more European-style beers such as hefeweizens and saisons, as well as American brown ales. "We each have our own lane that we stick to," Perry said.
