Salem High CTE Students Provide Future Glimpse During Tour, Job Fair

SALEM, MA — Salem High Career and Technical Education students showed off their developed skills for local officials, as well as union and business leaders, before taking part in a recent "Hunting for Success" career fair at Salem High.

State Rep. Paul Tucker, State Sen. Joan Lovely’s team, Laborers Local 22 Business Manager Louis A. Mandarini Jr., Salem Partnership Executive Director Beth Debski, and School Committee members Vice-Chair Manny Cruz, Jim Fleming, Mary Manning and Beth A. Cornell joined the students on April 14 to discuss programs and partnership opportunities.

The tour included an automotive technologies vehicle repair demonstration and the new state-of-the-art medical assisting lab.

Students highlighted three construction programs — carpentry, building and property maintenance, and electrical — and the upgrades to all three programs that will include wind and solar technology, energy efficiency rating equipment and collaborative classroom spaces.

The event concluded with the first career fair, including more than 50 local businesses, sponsored by the Career and Technical Education Department internship program "Hunting for Success."

The career fair gave students a chance to learn employer expectations, training and skills needed, and the required education firsthand from experts in the field in order to better prepare for future success.
