Salem Hit With Second Water Main Break In 2 Days

After a break on Leavitt Street on Sunday, Salem Public Services said there was a break in the area of Glendale Street on Monday afternoon.

SALEM, MA — A second water main break in two days was affecting parts of Salem on Monday afternoon.

The Department of Public Services said crews were responding to a 6-inch water main break on Glendale Street late Monday afternoon and that water was shut down on Glendale from Summit Avenue to Dion's Boat Yard as of 4 p.m.

Salem DPS said three hydrants were out of service on Glendale Street as a control measure for water in the system while the main was being repaired. Repairs were expected to be completed by Monday night.

Those in the area may have experienced brown or discolored water on Monday and were advised to run water for about 15 minutes until it runs clear.

The Glendale break comes a day after a 12-inch main broke on Leavitt Street early Sunday morning. Salem DPS said that break was reported at about 6:30 a.m. and resulted in service shut off at the main on Congress Street.

Repairs on that main lasted most of the day on Sunday.
