Salem Man Faces Gun Charges After Highway Stop: State Police

SALEM, MA — A Salem man is facing gun charges after State police said a loaded handgun with a high-capacity clip and altered serial number was found during a highway stop on I-95 in Lexington Saturday morning.

State police said Gabby Suazo, 34, of Salem was charged, along with Joel Dilone, 32, of Lynn, and Manuel DeLeon-Ventura, 26, of Saugus, after a trooper saw the gun in the back seat pocket following a stop for speeding around 6 a.m.

Police said a state trooper clocked the gray Chevrolet Malibu doing 88 mph and saw the rear seat passenger duck out of site as the car came to a stop. Additional cruisers arrived and police said they conducted a probable-cause search of the car.

Police said they found the loaded Ruger .380 pistol with the extended magazine in plain view in the rear seat pocket. The serial number on the gun had been obliterated.

None of the passengers had a permit to carry the gun.

Dilone was held on $2,500 bail, Suazo was held on $1,500 bail and DeLeon-Ventura was held on $50 bail, and all three were scheduled for arraignment at Concord District Court.

Suazo was charged with possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of a large capacity feeding device, conspiracy, improper storage of a firearm, receiving stolen property, possessing a firearm with three prior violent or drug-related crimes, second offense of possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded fireward and second offense firearm possession without an identification card.

Dilone and DeLeon-Ventura are facing similar charges.

Dilone is also charged with speeding.
