Salem Native Recipient of Distinguished Scientist Award

Northeastern University Professor Receives Award

Vincent Harris, University Distinguished Professor and William Lincoln Smith Chaired Professor of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Northeastern University’s College of Engineering, was recently awarded the 2016 TMS Functional Materials Division Distinguished Scientist Award.

The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) award recognizes an individual for research excellence in one or more areas related to electronic, magnetic, and photonic materials science. Formal presentation of the award will be made at the FMD Council Meeting in Nashville, Tennessee during the 145th TMS Annual Meeting in February 2016.

A Salem native and a graduate of Peabody Memorial High School Class of 1980, Harris received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. Currently, he is the Director of the Center for Microwave Magnetic Materials and Integrated Circuits (CM³IC). Prior to joining the faculty in the CoE, Harris was the head of the Materials Physics Branch at the Naval Research Laboratory of Washington DC.
