Salem Officials Condemn Attacks On Israel, Express Support ForJewish People Worldwide

Salem's mayor, City Council members and State House representatives issued a joint statement on the attacks.

SALEM, MA — Salem city leaders and representatives issued a joint statement condemning the weekend attacks on Israel and expressing support for Jewish families worldwide.

Salem Mayor Dominick Pangallo, State Sen. Joan Lovely, State Rep. Manny Cruz and the members of the City Council signed the statement that notes the city's name comes from the Hebrew word for peace — "shalom" — and the Arabic word for peace — "salaam."

"Hamas's actions escalate tensions, perpetuate a cycle of violence and inflict unnecessary suffering and death on innocent residents throughout the region," the statement said. "We stand in solidarity with all who have endured the trauma of these attacks. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those killed, who have suffered immeasurable pain and loss.
