SALEM, MA — Those looking to dispute a Salem parking ticket will no longer be able to do so in person starting next month.

Beginning July 1, the process to appeal a ticket in the city will change with no more in-person appeals to the hearing officer at City Hall. Instead, appeals must be made via email.

Those who believe they were improperly ticketed will need to email tickethearings@salem.com. Once the appeal is received, the city will then have an additional 21 days to respond.

If not appealed within 21 days, the ticket must be paid with escalating late fees the longer it is outstanding. Outstanding tickets may also result in the state rejecting the renewal of a driver's license or vehicle registration.

Those who believe they were victimized by a broken meter must also report that meter for confirmation within 24 hours by calling 978-745-8120.
