Salem Woman Reports Finding Burglar in Her Home

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 

Monday, Jan. 13

  • At 5:08 p.m., police responded to a disturbance on New Derby Street.
  • At 5:09 p.m., police responded to a report of someone trying to pass a false prescription at the Target on Traders Way.
  • At 5:11 p.m., police checked on a dog left in a car on Lynde Street. The owner was unable to be located.
  • At 5:42 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Buffum Street. Michael P. Walsh, 53, of 9 Buffum St., Salem, was arrested on charges of domestic assault and battery and intimidating a witness.
  • At 5:52 p.m., police made an arrest on Paradise Road. Joseph M. Phillips Jr., 26, of 7 Ocean Terrace, Salem, was arrested for reportedly having two outstanding warrants.
  • At 6:28 p.m., police responded to a trash picking complaint on Pickman Street.
  • At 6:39 p.m., police responded to the emergency room at Salem Hospital to take a report of a past hit-and-run accident on Bridge Street. A skateboarder told police he was struck by a motor vehicle that kept going.
  • At 6:47 p.m., police made an arrest on Congress Street. Curtis Lee, 53, of the streets of Boston was arrested for reportedly having two outstanding warrants.
  • At 7:23 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Heritage Drive.
  • At 7:32 p.m., police responded to the Deli House on Congress Street after an employee told police someone stole the store's cell phone. Police were provided with surveillance footage of the incident.
  • At 8:32 p.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Boardman Street.
  • At 8:54 p.m., police responded to a disturbance near the intersection of Margin and Mill streets.
  • At 9:28 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Downing Street.
  • At 10:53 p.m., police stopped a motor vehicle near the intersection of Valley Street and Cherry Hill Avenue. Kayla A. Provencher, 23, of 15 Macarthur Circle, Peabody, was arrested on a charge of possessing a class D substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute.
  • At 10:57 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Mason Street. Keith Green, 50, of 22 Mason St., Salem, was arrested on charges of assault and threatening to commit a crime.

Tuesday, Jan. 14

  • At 12:01 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Grove Street.
  • At 12:13 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Hardy Street.
  • At 12:22 a.m., police responded to a past assault on Buffum Street.
  • At 1:07 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Hardy Street.
  • At 1:08 a.m., an employee at the 7-Eleven called police to report an unarmed robbery. The man told police he was assaulted by a shoplifter.
  • At 2:05 a.m., a Dearborn Street woman called police to report that she woke up to find a burglar in her house. The burglar reportedly broke in through a first-floor window and left through a side door.
  • At 4:00 a.m., police conducted a well-being check on Highland Avenue.
  • At 5:51 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Leach Street.
  • At 8:09 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Chase Street.
  • At 8:50 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Franklin Street.
  • At 8:59 a.m., police arrested a juvenile at Salem High School on Willson Street for reportedly disturbing a school assembly.
  • At 10:16 a.m., police responded to a trash picking complaint on Whalers Lane.
  • At 10:19 a.m., police responded to a report of malicious destruction of a motor vehicle on Prince Street.
  • At 10:51 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Leach Street.
  • At 12:05 p.m., police responded to a dispute on Oakland Street.
  • At 1:02 p.m., police responded to a shoplifting incident at the Walgreens on New Derby Street.
  • At 1:14 p.m., police made an arrest near the intersection of Summer and Norman streets. Elizabeth C. Steadman, 33, of 179 Boston St., Salem, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 1:20 p.m., a man called police to report that another motorist had just flashed a handgun at him near the intersection of Congress and Lynch streets.
  • At 2:33 p.m., police made an arrest on Highland Avenue. Kevin P. Brown, 42, of 13 Abington Road, Danvers, was arrested for reportedly having an outstanding warrant.
  • At 4:12 p.m., police responded to a report of welfare fraud on Symonds Street.
  • At 4:50 p.m., police responded to a dispute between landlord and tenant on Watson Street.
  • At 4:59 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Mill Street.
