SALEM, MA — Dozens of diseased trees at Forest River Park will be removed beginning Monday as part of what Mayor Dominick Pangallo is calling an upgrade of one of the city's open spaces.

The city said the "high-hazard tees" will be removed over the course of a couple of days and that replacement trees will be planted this coming spring.

Those who frequent the park are advised that the sections of trees in question will be an active construction site during the removal. Police details will be on-site to assist with traffic during the project.

The trees slated for removal are mostly ash trees but include a handful of pine, maple, and linden trees.

The new, healthy trees will be part of the city's plan to maintain and expand its urban canopy.
