Salem School Committee Selects New Superintendent

Margarita Ruiz has been selected as the new school superintendent of the Salem Public School District.
Ruiz has been serving as Network Superintendent in Boston Public Schools, supervising a network of 16 schools with a population of about 6,900 students, of which about 60% are English language learners. Ms. Ruiz has also served as Principal of Samuel Adams School in East Boston, leading a linguistically, racially diverse school to significant improvements in student achievement.

The Salem School Committee interviewed three finalists for superintendent last week, and voted unanimously to select Ruiz on Friday. The three finalists were chosen based on a recommendation by the Superintendent Search Screening Committee.
