Salem Schools Closed Friday With Icy Expectations

Salem Public Schools will be closed on Friday with a forecast of sleet and freezing rain.

SALEM, MA — Salem Public Schools are closed Friday because of the latest winter storm.

"SPS will be closed (Friday) because of predicted ice, freezing rain plus flash freezing to our streets and sidewalks," the district said. "We are making this decision based on a safety risk to our staff and students as travel could be quite hazardous at various times during the day."

The National Weather Service forecast for the Boston area Friday calls for freezing rain before 9 a.m., then freezing rain and sleet between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., then sleet after 10 a.m.
