Salem To See Rolling Roadblocks During North Shore Runfest

SALEM, MA — Salem drivers can expect rolling roadblocks on Sunday when the North Shore Runfest moves through city streets beginning at 9 a.m.

The race will start on Congress Street near the entrance to the Harbor Walk and return to the same area at the finish.

Runners will head south on Congress Street, turn right onto Ward Street, then take a right onto Lafayette Street and another right onto Derby Street.

The course then continues straight on Fort Avenue, takes a slight right onto Columbus Avenue, and turns right onto Bay View Avenue.

From there, runners will follow Bay View Avenue around the point, turn right onto Beach Avenue, take a left onto Sutton Avenue, and then turn right onto Bay View Avenue again. The route will continue straight onto Restaurant Row, then take a slight right or continue straight onto Memorial Drive.

The course then moves onto Szetela Lane, where runners will turn right onto Webb Street and left onto Webster Street. After that, the race will continue with a left onto Pleasant Street and then straight onto Washington Square East.

In the later part of the course, runners will turn left onto Forrester Street and continue right on Forrester Street at the fork in the road. The route then takes runners onto Essex Street with a right turn, followed by a left onto Hawthorne Boulevard.

The final stretch brings runners straight onto Congress Street, where the race will finish back at the starting line.

Because the road blocks will be rolling, traffic impacts are expected to shift as runners move from one part of the course to the next.

Drivers planning to be in Salem that morning may want to allow extra travel time along or near the route, especially in the downtown, waterfront, and Point area streets included in the course.
