Salem Seeks Public Artist In Residence For 2024

The artist will lead community engagement and create arts-centered programming at the downtown Artists' Row.

SALEM, MA — Salem is seeking its next Artist in Residence to help create, lead and promote programming at the downtown Artists' Row in 2024.

Artists' Row consists of four artists' stalls, a restaurant, and a public restroom on New Derby Street across from Old Town Hall and Derby Square. This area was originally built as an open-air marketplace and continues to serve the community as a thriving artist center, public plaza, and pedestrian way.

Participation in Artists' Row is designed to be a springboard for creatives so they can gain exposure and take their craft to the next stage professionally or in their creative journey. The goal is to bring that art and spirit to the public in an interactive and accessible setting.

The Artist in Residence is a paid position for eight months with the ideal candidate able to develop large-scale public artworks, performances, art events and immersive experiences.

The deadline to apply for the 2024 position is Aug. 31 at 4 p.m.
