Salem Teachers Paid Below State Average
The Boston Business Journal released its annual list based on the average teacher salary in each community.

SALEM, MA - Public school teachers in Salem were paid below the state average in 2015, according to the Boston Business Journal .
Earlier this month, the Boston Business Journal released a full list of average annual salaries of public educators in each community, based on data from the Department of Early and Secondary Education.
According to the Boston Business Journal study, the average salary of public school teachers in Salem last year was $73,185, more than $1,000 shy of the state average of $74,737.

The district was 161 out of the 317 school districts that reported data to the state. Benefits such as summers off and pensions, negotiated between individual school districts and unions, were not included in the data.
Teacher pay has increased by 11 percent in the past six years, but average salaries decreased from $75,208 to $73,185 from 2014 to 2014.

Average wages were determined by dividing each district's total salaries and stipends by the number of full-time teachers employed in 2015.
