Salem Unveils City Hall 'Hidden Treasures' As Part Of 400+ Celebration

SALEM, MA — Salem visitors and residents will be able to step back into an historic part of the Witch City never before seen in its myriad museums and shops this month with the "Hidden Treasures from City Hall" exhibit at Old Town Hall.

The collection of maps, historical records, photographs and artifacts that have been stored away for decades and centuries will be on display for the first time during the exhibit that opens on Friday and extends through May 10.

The program is part of the Salem 400+ anniversary celebration.

From hand-drawn maps that once guided city planning to photographs capturing everyday life in Salem across different eras, each item on display tells a story of the people who built and maintained this community.

These items come directly from the working files, offices, and archives of City Hall itself.

"These items are a reflection of Salem's story," remarked Mayor Dominick Pangallo, "We're proud to bring them into the light, so our community can see, firsthand, the unique history that lives within their City Hall.

"Visitors are encouraged to bring their families and take their time exploring the collection."

The exhibit is open from noon to 4 p.m. on Friday, noon to 6 pm. on Saturday and Sunday, 3 to 7 p.m. on May 7 and May 8, noon to 4 p.m. on May 9 and noon to 4 p.m. on May 10.

This is a chance to discover a side of Salem that very few people have ever seen before the items are returned to the archives on May 10.
