Salem Veterans Ceremony To Honor World War II Soldier Killed In Action

This year's event will take place in front of the Salem Police Headquarters at 95 Margin Street on Veterans Day.

SALEM, MA — Salem will honor Patrolman and U.S. Army Lt. Philip A. McCarthy during this year's Veterans Day ceremony.

McCarthy was an Army soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country during World War II.

The traditional ceremony will take place outside Salem Police Headquarters at 95 Margin Street on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.

Mayor Kim Driscoll's Office and the Salem Veterans Council will host the event to honor McCarthy, who was killed in action on Dec. 11, 1944, in Hurtgen Forest, Germany.

Retired Salem Police Chief Robert St. Pierre will be the guest speaker at the ceremony.

All veterans, their families and friends are invited to attend a collation immediately after the ceremony at VFW Post 1524 at 95 Derby Street.
