Salem Voter's Guide: The Presidential Primary is Tuesday, March 1

Your guide to Tuesday's Presidential Primary including polling locations, absentee ballot information and more.

Salem, MA - Massachusetts might not get all the attention of neighboring New Hampshire when it comes to presidential politics, but Super Tuesday is right around the corner.

The Presidential Primary will be held on Tuesday, March 1.

Voters are encouraged to confirm their voter status and polling location by visiting the Secretary of State’s office online or by calling the Town Clerk’s office.

What You Need to Know about Party Affiliation

There are four political parties in Massachusetts:

  • D - Democratic Party
  • R - Republican Party
  • J - Green-Rainbow
  • CC - United Independent Party

When voting on March 1, 2016, voters who are enrolled in one of the above parties can only vote on the ballot for that party.

Voters who are unenrolled in a party (commonly known as “Independent”) will be listed on the voter list with the party code “U.” Unenrolled voters and voters who are members of Political Designations can choose which party’s ballot they would like to receive.

Residents had until Feb. 10 to change their party enrollment for the Presidential Primary.

Polling Locations and Hours

The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1.
