Second resident dies at Woodbriar Health Center

Wilmington-based nursing home faces penalty from the State

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health issued a penalty on Tuesday to Woodbriar Health Center ordering it not to accept new patients until the facility reaches a satisfactory standard of care.

The officials reached that decision after the death of a second nursing home resident on February 8. The resident was found dead in bed at 5:30 am, after falling the night before. There were no records that the resident was checked through the night as recommended by the physician in charge. The first death happened in December after a worker accidently dropped a resident.

Synergy Health Centers owns the Wilmington-based nursing home and has faced other citations for medication errors, poor infection control, and inadequate staff training, according to a Boston Globe report. Woodbriar Health Center will face a daily financial penalty between $3,050 and $10,000 until all deficiencies have been corrected.
