SALEM, MA — Massachusetts State Police will conduct a sobriety checkpoint at an undermined location in Essex County over the weekend of June 1 and 2. The ongoing checkpoints are designed to educate the public about the dangers of impaired and intoxicated driving. The program is funded with a grant from the MA Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.
"The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," State Police said in a news release. "It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."
