Stolen Car Sighting on Linden Street Leads to Arrest of Two Men

Both were charged with receiving property, one also faces gun charges.

Salem police arrested two men on charges connected with stealing a car on Linden Street on Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Wednesday, police got a call about a possible stolen car that was spotted on Linden Street. The caller said that two men were seen walking away from the vehicle.

When police officers got there, they saw two men walk down Forester Street to Linden Street and then get into the car. Both were arrested without incident, according to police.

The driver of the car was also found with a handgun and faces additional charges.

Christopher Lee Watkins, 30, of Newburyport was charged with receiving stolen property over $250, possession of a firearm in a felony, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, and having ammunition without an FID card.

The passenger, Justin Michael Smith, 27, of Salem, was charged with receiving stolen property over $250.
