Harbor Port Authority Looks To Remake Salem Waterfront
Proposals being considered by the new body include a second ferry terminal for the city and commercial development.

SALEM, MA -- The city's new Harbor Port Authority met for the first time last week. Among the proposals and plans the body may be tackling are the addition of a second ferry terminal, as well as proposals to redevelop a 45-acre property owned by the Footprint Power Salem Harbor Station, which had a new facility go online last year.
According to the Salem News which first reported this story, some improvements could be up and running as early as next year. "It's an amazing opportunity we have, not only with this pier but certainly as the 45 acres (around Footprint) gets built out, we'll be able to influence that," Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll said at last week's meeting. "We won't be able to 100-percent control that — it isn't our land — but we'll have a lot of opportunities to shape and influence what goes on there."
